Deborah Newton
Founder
Deborah’s passion for the industry started in 1985 when she joined Jardine Glanville as a claims broker. She then progressed to producing broker roles at CE Heath, Swire Fraser and Benfield, placing specialty lines business.
Her 20-year career as a broker spans working in London and Hong Kong, with frequent travel to the US and Europe.
Moving into executive search in 2005, she gained credibility fast as an experienced search consultant within the London market. Her remit introduced an enhanced, search-led product to syndicates, company markets and brokers, with a strong emphasis on the London insurance market where she conducted many in-depth market mapping and headhunting campaigns. She joined Catlin, and subsequently XLCatlin, to help establish an award-wining in-house recruitment platform. Working with the executive management team, business group leaders and the marketing team, she was pivotal to building a direct hiring platform to attract top-tier talent into the business.
Deborah has dedicated over 30 years to the London insurance sector and built a huge array of industry connections in the process. She is passionate about the people and the industry, and those who want to excel in it. In 2015, Newton Ray was formed to apply that passion to full effect.
Alexander J Brewster
Research Associate
Graduating from Bristol university with a Ba (Hons) in International Business Studies and Spanish. Alexander started his insurance career as a Super Yacht Insurance Broker at Cooper Gay.
During his 12 year career in insurance Alexander worked as a placing broker in Lloyds, a marine surveyor handling claims worldwide, a claims adjuster for a large European insurer handling claims in Spanish from Europe and South America and finally into Underwriting marine liability and Cargo.
In 2011 he set up Portside Insurance Management Services, an MGA underwriting Marine Transport Operators Liability Insurance on behalf of Lloyds which focused on the growing markets of India, the Middle East and South East Asia. In 2015 he sold his share to the parent company.
